Acer Chromebook Spin 513 review: a chip off a new block

The Verge

If you’re looking for an affordable Netflix machine, the Spin is a great candidate — especially given its movie-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio. I’ve been using the Spin as my primary work driver for a week, and I was able to get done most of the things I needed to — Google Docs for work, emailing, tweeting, etc.

The panel has a 2560 x 1600 resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio — so not only is it wide, but you get an extra bit of vertical space compared to many popular laptops. The bigger software problem remains: Amazon does not have access to the Google Play Store and is therefore lacking many of the apps you are familiar with on a phone (think Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Docs, etc). Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. In fact, Amazon’s own Luna subscription gaming service doesn’t work on it.

Samsung’s Odyssey G9 does the work of three monitors

The Verge

You can adjust the monitor’s settings using a tiny five-way control nub underneath the power LED, and it’s remarkable how much you can tweak — including the ability to crop the entire panel to 4:3, 16:9, or 21:9 aspect ratios instead of stretching out the image. The ultrawide aspect ratio didn’t work as well for video as I hoped, though.
