I recently wrote a blog entry about LibreOffice (LO), the fork of OpenOffice.org (OOo) that came after the acquisition of Sun (the old holder/maintainer of OOo) by Oracle. For the purposes of this blog entry, at this moment in time (early 2011,) LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org are the same.

At first blush, although Kintera officially got out the door first, announcing Connect weeks ago, and delivering the APIs and docs on Friday, their play is a good start, but Convio, announcing Open tomorrow, appears to be ahead in terms of providing real openness. Here’s a quick overview of both initiatives. The API is SOAP.

This doc primarily focuses on the v2 version of the Marks et al. An oracle probe trained on an unbiased training dataset, where gender is not correlated with profession, achieves an accuracy of 93%. Elsewhere, Apple seems to be trying to push Notes towards a similar vein to Google Docs. These things I’m not sure about — I already use Docs for the purpose Notes is moving towards here, and the former is still much more full-featured, not to mention more widely accessible outside of Apple’s ecosystem.
