In this piece I’m reviewing the one in the middle: the brand-new, but not really new inside, Apple Watch SE. Essentially, it’s the same thing as a Series 4 from 2018 , with just two minor differences: the SE doesn’t have the ability to measure your ECG, but does have an always-on altimeter. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge.
Light set out to overcome the limitations of small camera sensors — like those in our phones — by cramming a ton of cameras (each with different focal lengths) onto one device and combining the data from all those modules. Its proof of concept for this was the $2,000 L16 camera.
Given Sony’s photography ambitions for the 5 II, I’ll allow it the physical shutter control, but the Google Assistant button feels unnecessary — especially in a position that’s too low to be convenient to press. Sony’s approach to smartphone photography is twofold. The pro photography mode gives you a wealth of controls.

As usual, if you travel a lot, you should keep an eye on the bands available on the several variants that are sold in different regions. I don’t know that I would go that far, but I also can’t remember the last time I’ve said “whoa, look at this photo” as many times as I have during this review. The best cameras on a smartphone.
If this review is your first introduction to FPV drones, here’s how they are different from a typical drone. But the biggest difference between DJI’s FPV and most other FPVs is the image transmission. DJI has also developed an optional $199 motion controller, which I didn’t have time to test for this review.
The dish is small and light enough that you can easily move it to different locations, but you’re not guaranteed service anywhere but the address where you signed up. If this wasn’t a short-term review, I would certainly have it mounted on a pole on top of the structure. Photography by Nilay Patel / The Verge. I feel you.
I had no such trouble, and I’m one of those people whose ears hate regular AirPods; the fit here is different and wholly unique. Jumping across different playlists and genres, I came away very pleased by the warmth and balance of the Buds Live. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. If you’re worried about bass, don’t be.
A 2020 standout, a 2021 question mark This is an easy review. It’s identical to the Dell XPS 13 9300, which I reviewed back in April , in every way, except one: it has Intel’s new 11th Gen Tiger Lake processors. You’ll notice the difference. You won’t notice a difference that small while you’re actually playing.).
The X200 Pro is equipped with multiple portrait modes at different focal lengths, including 85mm and 135mm. While flare is commonly seen in camera and smartphone photography, its occurrence during everyday use is rare and typically happens under specific lighting conditions.
I didn’t get the S Pen to test so I can’t speak to whether it’s any good, but I don’t have any reason to expect it would be too different from the stylus experience on the Note line of phones. Because we unlock our phones so often, even tiny changes make a huge difference in reducing a sense of friction. Night mode.
Nilay Patel is reviewing the iPhone 12 Pro separately, here. I can’t test that with our review unit (at least, not intentionally), but I did have a totally accidental drop to concrete from three feet that stopped my heart but only put a barely perceptible ding in the aluminum. provided you have at least a 20-watt power brick.
The new Envy can come with a few different AMD Ryzen 4000 chips. My $799 review unit has the Ryzen 5-4500U, along with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. There, you can swap between presets for Music, Movie, and Voice, as well as equalizer settings for different tunes. The thesis of this review is that I have almost no complaints.
Here’s the difference, taken from a still frame out of the QuickTime recorder. The difference in webcam quality is instantly apparent. With the nano texture screen option and a 1TB SSD, the machine Apple provided for review would retail for around $4,500. Photography by Dieter Bohn / The Verge.
I get asked almost weekly what the best budget camera system is for someone who doesn’t know much about photography, and my answer is almost always the same: what phone do you have? Thanks to smartphones, taking great photos no longer requires learning a camera system, image editing, and the ins and outs of photography.
Take a look at some pictures before selecting your color because they each have pretty different vibes. Despite its design similarities, this Spectre looks noticeably different from its ancestors, and that’s because of the screen. This 3:2 panel can come in a few different forms. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge.
But I was a good boy for this review. The top image with better cable management is what buyers today will receive in mid-March, compared to the review bike which was sold in December and January. The Aventa Pure e-bike sent for review has far too many exposed cables and connectors for my liking. Now, about the cable management.
Fast-forward to now and Apple’s new smart speaker, the $99 HomePod mini, takes a different approach. The HomePod mini has a different look than the larger HomePod, but you can tell they were cut from the same cloth. That allows you to use voice controls to play music and have it play from a different service than Apple Music.

In this review I’m looking at the Summit Series , which is MSI’s attempt to enter the same space. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. It’s a crowded field already, but Razer made quite a splash with its excellent Razer Book 13 , which has an elegant chassis, a 16:10 screen, and just a touch of its company’s signature RGB lighting.
And the weight difference is also substantial: each of the Studio Buds is 5.1 The oval charging case is mercifully way smaller than the giant one that holds the Powerbeats Pro, and the red color of my review unit is quite eye-catching. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. They look downright miniature in comparison.
Not so much Earlier this year, my colleague Cameron Faulkner reviewed the Razer Kishi , a smartly designed game controller for Android phones created in collaboration with Gamevice. Now a version for iPhones is here, and it’s essentially the same story — the biggest difference is what it can do. Photography by Sam Byford / The Verge.
My review board came equipped with standard Red switches. In theory, this means the keyboard’s input lag or the time between you pressing a key and the signal being transmitted to your PC, is as minimal as possible, presumably making all the difference in a high-speed gaming situation. Photography by Jon Porter / The Verge.
But to get the most out of your phonetography as content strategy you have to align your subject matter with your communication objectives and put the basics of good photography into practice. But there are some specific tips for this new genre of photography: 1. Be Quick: There are two principles for mobile phone photography.
Google has officially confirmed that a new Pixel phone is coming this Monday, and while there’s a slight possibility it could be a different phone, Google itself had also leaked a picture of a phone last month that matches up with everything else we’d heard. And it looks like the phone will finally be launching on August 3rd.
The key difference is the overall volume, which makes it tiny in comparison to the Xbox One X. We’ll need to review the Xbox Series S to analyze performance fully, but it looks like Microsoft’s next-gen console will deliver a lot of value — especially if you combine it with the company’s Xbox Game Pass subscription.
Features, screen size, and cost all increase in increments as you go up the chain, but you’re more or less getting the same phone in three different flavors. On top of that, it still offers a very good 10x optical zoom, as well as some appealing updates to its photography features. Samsung S22 Ultra design and hardware. It’s a huge, 6.8-inch
These come with black mirrored lenses in the box, but Bose also sells a couple of other pairs of $40 lenses that you can swap in to let different amounts of light pass through. Bose sells additional $40 pairs of lenses that let in different amounts of light. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. I really get it.
It’s a nice change of pace to my overall approach that I wasn’t expecting when I started my review. It doesn’t look any different than cropping the original footage. Photography by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge. Video on the DJI Mini 2. at 60 Mbps that was on the original Mavic Mini. The Mini 2 isn’t DJI’s flashiest drone.
We do understand that different people have different preferences, so we will continue to listen to user feedback for future products. You’re not going to be able to tell any difference between codecs with this open style of earbud anyway.). Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
In fact, there isn’t much difference between the Galaxy Watch 3 and any smartwatch that’s come out in the past few years — at least in terms of core functionality. If it feels like I spent the majority of this review comparing how the Galaxy Watch 3 is different or the same as prior watches.
Dell has finally released an OLED version of its XPS 13 , and I’m typing this review on it right now. Nothing else about this XPS is new: it has the same thin and light build, the same tiny bezels and webcam, the same glass-fiber palm rests, and the same 16:10 aspect ratio as the past couple Dell XPS 13s I’ve reviewed.
Let’s get this out of the way: if you’re serious about photography, then you won’t like the cameras on the DuraSport. The cameras take perfectly fine photos in good lighting conditions, but they’re not designed for anything challenging like low-light or action photography. Photography by Gloria Sin / The Verge.
They’re quite different from Sony’s past foam tips, now with a thicker design that’s less rounded and with a tackier feel that helps them stay planted in your ears. or have it change automatically if the app detects different activities. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
Sony has added what it calls “Precise Voice Pickup technology” to the 1000XM4s, which optimizes audio processing from the five built-in microphones for clearer voice capture — and the difference is apparent. I’m reviewing the headphones as they’re performing out of the box and will circle back once the update is made available.
The Pixel 4A is still the better camera in good lighting, too, but the differences are more subjective here. The “focal length” difference between the two is almost laughably small. There’s a different selection of them every day, and you don’t need a Snapchat account to use or share them.
There are two versions of the Fairphone 4 available: one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (the model I’ve been using for this review) and a step-up version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which retails for €649 / £569. Photography by Jon Porter / The Verge. It’s a decent €200 phone that happens to be priced at €579.
Of Amazon’s smart display lineup, it’s certainly the pokiest, taking the most time to load a video feed from a security camera and taking an extra beat or two to pull up different screens or menus when you interact with it. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. The new Echo Show 5 is effectively the same as the prior model?.
The most significant difference is the type of microphone being used: to help reduce background noise, it’s now a cardioid unidirectional mic that’s designed to only pick up sound coming from wherever it’s pointed. Different mic cover colors are included. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
This device bears the same name as its predecessor from last year, but it differs in a few key ways. The G Power uses a Snapdragon 662 processor, and I felt the difference between this and the performance from a 700-series step-up chipset. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge. inch Motorola One 5G Ace.
megapixel stacked CMOS sensor, an OLED viewfinder capable of 240fps refresh rate, and a mechanical shutter flash sync up to 1/400th of a second, all in a body that doesn’t look or feel that much different than any other Sony full-frame mirrorless camera. Photography by Becca Farsace / The Verge. The Alpha 1 is comprised of a 50.1-megapixel
The base model is $2,599 — the only difference is that it has an RTX 2070 Max-Q rather than the 2080. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. Inside, my test model has an eight-core Core i7-10875H, 16GB of dual-channel RAM (upgradeable to 64GB), a 512GB SSD and an open M.2 That configuration is $3,199.
Samsung put a lot of emphasis on how it has made this screen stronger, thanks to how it re-layered the different internal components from the screen. That is a strange thing to type as I (and every reviewer I know) have been ragging on Android tablets for nearly a decade. Photography by Dieter Bohn / The Verge.
It works reasonably well and only activates when there are sustained changes in ambient noise as you move between different locations, but I’m old-school and prefer controlling volume myself rather than letting algorithms do it. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
