Over the last decade the discussion around nonprofit technology ( #nptech ) has primarily been social media, mobile technology, and online fundraising, however as the internet enters its next phase, nonprofits need to better understand some of the more complicated concepts that will shape the internet and its use in the decades to come.

NTEN is trying to get a handle on all of this, and find out what people use, and how much they like what they use. It’s such an interesting space, and there are some really intriguing things happening with software in that space. I can’t wait to get my grubby little fingers on the data on CiviCRM and Salesforce.

December 12, 2007 I had a good look at NTEN’s CRM Satisfaction Survey (yippee for data!), They included CiviCRM , SugarCRM , and vTiger (which is actually a modification of SugarCRM), all with vibrant developer and user ecosystems. There were 6 open source (or sort of open source) tools that showed up on this survey.
Last year’s winner was Barry Warsaw, lead developer of the awesome Mailman mailing list manager. NTEN keeps surprising me with cool stuff for nonprofit tech peeps. The competition, judged by a panel of national leaders in public interest computing, is now entering its third year. Ruby Sinreich is a new phenomenon ! You go girl!
