As a charitable donor, Ive become so fickle its almost embarrassing. When we investigate motivations for charitable giving, we arent only concerned with what motivates a donor to write the first check to a charitable organization, but also what inspires them to become a regular, ongoing donor.
We know that lots of orgs have heard some variation of this from their bosses—“We need to get on the Twitter!” Ive seen many orgs that seem to want numbers for the sake of numbers: when they dont want to think things through clearly, rather than understand the goals and missions and then take a quantitative view.

Often I find with orgs that I work with, someone will send an email to their "all staff" email list that says basically: "OMG! " And if its a sufficiently compelling case, it gets approved and the org goes on to write a wonky boring email about it to send to members. Did you see this?! All rights reserved.

However, since most of our donors are aged 40+, very few had a Facebook account.
