Even though I work for Convio, Common Ground gets no special treatment. We have the group set so topics are public, but only members can post and membership has to be approved to avoid spam. The group is completely independent. About a year ago I stopped getting moderator email…to a @gmail.com address, no less.
Every dollar is matched by Convio, allowing NTEN to send up to 57 people this year! It went into my spam filter, FYI.). And, as you may know, every year, NTEN tries to raise $10,000 to send staffers from small nonprofits to the conference who otherwise couldn’t afford to attend. We use Convio for our email marketing, and unfortunately their email WYSIWYG editor…well…sucks. Go back to nested tables (but not too many…you have to keep the code light and not get bounced as spam if there’s not enough content vs. code) and only use inline CSS styles.

Here's a nice before the event write up from Jordan over at the Convio Blog based on a conversation with Renee Alexander, Operation Smile's Social Media Stragetist. Chris Pirillo was there and at one point got up and offered to do silly stunts if we donated money to 140 Smiles. I have it on video). I'll look forward to hearing a report.

His main point is that Twitter is not an advertising tool or spam tool. And then I remember answering a similar question during the Convio Webinar last week. That nonprofits and companies should not set up a Twitter account to "prattle on about their products and services." Twitter Is Not A Billboard and It's Not All About You.
Mobile Commons is a Convio partner and they have just launched Mobile Advocate - A new product integrated with Convio Luminate and designed to drive targeted advocacy phone calls from the web or SMS. 5) The furor about “junk mail” is mild compared to that about spam—as it should be, because online communications is prey to all sorts of fraud. When I first founded Convio back in 1999, I believed that direct mail was doomed and that money would flow online much faster. Whats the saying: Time waits for no man.
Haji initially stayed on, as Convios president, but stepped down from that role last month, although he remains a member of Convios board of directors. While spam is worse than it’s ever been, email continues to be the key to successful online fundraising programs – that’s a bit of surprise.
