Note from Beth: There has been a variety of criticism of contests. Nonprofit consultant Hildy Gottlieb has been a vocal skeptic and is deeply philosophically opposed to online contests as a method of change in the social sector. Earlier this month, I sent out a few tweets asking for the counterpoint to Hildy's view.

The young Nebraskan is the son of a University of Nebraska basketball assistant coach, which quickly catalyzed the relationship between Avery and the Nebraska basketball team. Avery has become a little brother to not only the Nebraska basketball team, but surely the student section and perhaps the entire state of Nebraska.

Parkinson’s Nebraska used the walk concept to inspire their Walk the State fundraiser, which asked participants to communally walk the distance it would take to cross the state of Nebraska. We’ve even seen organizations create versions of the walk that tie neatly into their organization. That’s why gaming events are such a great bet.
