As some of you know, part of my work is being the Community Builder for NetSquared , a project of Tech Soup that facilitates the adoption of social web tools by nonprofits and NGOs. You don't need to have tech expertise to submit a project to the Challenge, just an idea for a change you want to make that could be facilitated by a mashup.

Along with 3 colleagues, we volunteered to develop an entry for the Apps for America 2 contest , sponsored by the Sunlight Foundation. Over 1,500 mashups later, and a first prize win in the contest, DataMasher is proving to be a great experiment in data transparency. So what can this mean for nonprofits? What's Next?

Michaela Hackner and an amazing team from ForumOne worked to create a mashup tool for the Sunlight Foundation 's Sunlight Labs Apps for America 2 contest. My conclusion was that we're still in the early stages of Facebook Apps for good and that we'll see better results through effective collaborations between nonprofit fundraisers and application developers. The key here is that collaboration between nonprofit needs and application developers that's for all applications not just Facebook.
