But as you go about your planning this season, I’d like to get you thinking about contests a little differently. What’s great about task-based contests is that you’re encouraging participants to use online tools.

Make a “ stretch gift ” that is very generous and is outside your normal giving pattern. Be familiar with important information on the organization’s website, social media sites, YouTube channel, and other assets. For example, could people who donate every year be cultivated for a larger or monthly gift?

You can sell tickets at various intervals and draw winners for a range of enticing prizes–from gift baskets to exclusive experiences. These challenges could range from a trivia contest to a fun dance-off or relay races. Encourage guests to hit the floor by providing dance lessons or fun contests throughout the evening.

Donors love to know that their money was leveraged, and with matching gifts, they’re essentially giving two gifts for the price of one. In fact, one of the main reasons why Millennials donate is because they know their gift will be matched. Matching gifts are also a great way to boost donations mid-campaign.
