While I was offline today enjoying Mother's Day and the beautiful weather (as much as I could with seasonal allergies), Target launched its version of an online contest. on Facebook, Network for Good, Global Giving and Parade Magazine in 2007. This contest was based on the total amount raised.

birthday in true social media style with flickr 50th photo birthday card remix contest and I donated 50 bucks to the winner's favorite charity. I "met" Mark Grimes ( Ned.com ) virtually on Omidyar Network and he was part of a group that proposed community support for the Sharing Foundation.

Before I go further, I have thank everyone for the early birthday present - a donation to the Sharing Foundation. Last year, when I turned 51, I posted a challenge on my blog - could I get 51 people to donate $10 to the Sharing Foundation? It lets you ask your friends for donations instead of presents and makes it easy to thank them.

User-Generated Flickr Birthday Card Contest: For my 50th birthday, held a contest where friends got to remix embarrassing photos of me into a 50th Birthday Card on Flickr. I donated $50 to the winner's charity. The exercise: I'll ask the class to compose a birthday tweet that their network might retweet.

Over the past six months, I've been collaborating on a book with Allison Fine , titled " The Networked Nonprofit " and we've been sifting through stories, research, and seeing many patterns. Last year, TweetsGiving , raised $11,000 to build a classroom in Tanzania using Twitter to spread messages of thanks and opportunities to donate.
