But climate change has been a disaster experienced slowly, and now all at once. That is no longer the case.

I grew up in a small town by the New Jersey shore in a house a block from the Atlantic Ocean that my elderly parents still live in today. With Hurricane threatening a direct hit and potential devastating damage, emergency officials called for a mandatory evacuation — something that hasn’t happened in many years.

A short time after she took over a small troubled computer refurbishment nonprofit - hurricane Katrina hit. When she ran the Nature Conservancy in Louisiana, 200,000 acres were set aside. In August of 2005, she had barely begun getting things in order when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck. It as a lucky thing they did.
