There are definitely times when community building and even campaigning or organizing feels just like that! But, operating as a community organizer or manager is such a filling and critical role for programs, platforms and even campaigns to be successful that the idea of herding cats turns into searching youtube for cutest kitten videos.

Emerging Leaders Playbook: With the generous support of the Packard Foundation and in collaboration with Third Plateau Social Impact Strategies, we wrote and published the Emerging Leaders Playbook last year, along with facilitating a peer learning cohort with colleague Stephanie Rudat.
Note from Beth: I’m working with the Knight Foundation to facilitate a peer learning exchange that will help their community foundation partners learn and spread best practices in planning and implementing Giving Days. The Blue Grass Community Foundation, for example, added 16 new funds through its eight-week campaign.
The best part of the Playbook is that it is full of checklists and templates from the community foundations that in recent years have experimented with these campaigns, often with great success. They can seem overwhelming—months of planning, untold hours of staff time, culminating in a 24-hour or longer sprint. But they don’t have to be.
