In natural disasters, the training and quick action of first responders and emergency services save lives and livelihoods. But there is another crucial force operating in the background of any natural disaster: crisis volunteers. Spontaneous volunteers—selfless individuals who step up in a crisis—also converge on disaster sites.
In the United States, there were 28 climate disasters in 2023 , which surpassed the record of 22 disasters in 2020 – tallying a price tag of at least $92.9 Finally, the numbers worldwide are alarming– with 398 recorded natural disasters worldwide in 2023. In response, people often step up and ask, “How can I help?”
But if youre a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization or school in the midst of an unfolding disaster, you can do more than raise money.
