I realized, in being introduced to Edupunk , that I have been doing it for, oh, almost 20 years now.
I know they are becoming an increasingly important tool for nonprofits in communicating with their constituents, and so I do keep them in my peripheral vision, for sure. Annoyed because it seems the nptechcommunity hasn’t figured this out, even being hit over the head with this over, and over, and over again.

June 18, 2007 OK, so I finally drank the Facebook coolaid – and although it took me a long time to get around to, I have now realized how many people in the nptech field have already been on facebook for a while. I decided to try out facebook when I kept hearing about the integration of other social networking sites into facebook.
Amy is a great source for nptech tips of all types. and social network guru for the nptechcommunity. David Geilhufe ponders how technology solutions split communities, and issues of a lack of strategic vision. David is always a great source for thoughtful insights about opensource.
I think that it is certainly possible to disseminate some guidelines (that some people will pay attention to) for the use of the nptech tag that could increase the signal/noise ratio. Any community, online or otherwise, is about communication between individuals. As such, when it comes time to create or grow an online community, tools that allow for and encourage communication and interaction are vital. But this won't get us an online community. Opensource is a community-driven effort.
