The project is training 300 NGOs in Jordan , Lebanon , Tunisia , Morocco , and other Arab countries to become networked ngos and use social media for civil society goals. I’m here at the Dead Sea in Jordan where I delivered the key note for the E-mediat Networking Conference, “New Media for the Networked NGO.” Organizations raised almost $125,000 through integrated social media campaigns from donors. 12 training centers have been established.

We’ve had multiple celebrations of the web in recent years: the 20 th anniversary of the first public web page in 2011 , another 20 th anniversary webpage anniversary in 2013 , and this month, the 25 th anniversary of the idea of the web. People are comparing this venture to Google’s Project Loon. The World Wide Web Turns 25.

TechSoup donor partners, Microsoft and Cisco are teaming up with Google , the Omidyar Network , USAID , UKaid , and a host of additional charities and tech companies to launch the initiative. Last month it was Facebook’s Internet.org initiative to develop very low-cost Internet on mobile phones for people in developing countries.
