PeacePlayers International is a nonprofit organization that uses basketball to unite and educate children and their communities in conflict and post-conflict areas. Last year Oakland's homicide rate reached a five-year high of 148 people. NJN was created to give Oakland a place to share stories and to connect and develop solutions.

The Iron Souls is a Motorcycle Club based out of Oakland California that gives back to the betterment of the community. I am a Iron Soul. We really have fun doing it too.

Inside the box was a brochure for the Oakland Zoo. When she opened the tiny little box, glued inside the lid was a piece of paper that unfolded, like a fortune cookie fortune. It said, "A trip to the zoo!" The next largest box was opened by the 2nd oldest grandchild. They do things like, "A hike in the woods!"

The primary need, obviously, in our community, West Oakland, is a lack of access to healthy and affordable foods. We do a garden nutrition program at our two school sites and at the YMCA site, which is basically for children, at these sites, teaching them about gardening and about nutrition.
