Every week I get to go in and read with the same two children for a half an hour each in the school library. Today, 826 has chapters in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Michigan, and Boston. Organizations like these teach everything from sports, to science, to the arts, to girl empowerment. 826national.org.

Britt Bravo: In so many of the groups you profiled, the women were using the arts for education, empowerment, or healing. The children are ages 6-16, and they're making huge strides by leading a national movement against child rape in Zimbabwe. Right at the end of that period, I also was teaching. And, their weapon is poetry.
