Part III: Blogs, Podcasting and Vlogs September 27, 2006 When I start out these series, I seem to have an idea in hand about how to organize them, which, invariably, gets rearranged in the course of writing. At the conference, I attended a session on video blogging with Ryanne Hodson and was inspired to go play in a vlog sandbox. I was also curious to see whether there were nonprofits using vlogs to promote their causes. Now almost a year later, there is renewed interest in vlogging and nonprofits. Here's a synthesis. The Issues.
It makes finding channels with interesting video easy, as well as making channels easy. It might indeed make vlogging a lot easier as well. I’m looking forward to the Crooks and Liars channel! They’ve just released a beta version (sorry, Mac only, for once) of a new platform for internet video, called DTV.
One of the big issues nonprofit campaigners face in their day-to-day job is choosing what online channels and tools should they be investing in. Video blogging (aka vlogging) has been around for quite some time, yet many nonprofits don’t utilize it. Add comments and annotations. Use captions (also good for accessibility).
I've been thinking about how to best incorporate the back channel or in this case Twitter. Two recent blogs, " How To Present While People Are Twittering " and " Trends in Leadership Conferences " are the most recent blog posts packed with advice. How can we use back-channels as a progressive force at conferences?

He shows a video clip of Mena Trott's Keynote calling for more civility in blog commenting. Apparently, the comments in the backchannel got her angry, they weren't so civil - particularly those from Ben MetCalfe who Mena called to the mike.
