Note from Beth: There has been a variety of criticism of contests. Nonprofit consultant Hildy Gottlieb has been a vocal skeptic and is deeply philosophically opposed to online contests as a method of change in the social sector. Earlier this month, I sent out a few tweets asking for the counterpoint to Hildy's view.

Mark Horvath, known as " HardlyNormal " on Twitter and who is a tireless advocate for the cause of homelessness, was the winner of the SXSW Pepsi Refresh Challenge. Gary Vee , a social media celebrity champion and many others, helped this cause win the contest and receive a grant of $50,000 for Invisible People TV. Conclusion.

Encouraging nonprofits to embrace this mode of fundraising was the point of the Case Foundation’s America’s Giving Challenge , one of the first giving contests launched back in 2007 where I was a first place winner raising funds for Cambodian children. Giving Tuesday is also promoting many of the ideas in Giving 2.0

If you’re lacking a good collection of horror stories to tell, send a call out to your imaginative supporters to send in their scariest stories for a ghost story contest fundraiser. Halloween decorating contest. Homeowners can submit photos of their homes to be entered into the contest.

For my 50th birthday, I held a 50th Birthday Card Photo Remix Contest on flickr and donated $50 the winner's favorite charity. What about a gift in their honor to celebrate the special day. April: We celebrate Earth Day this month. If you're a blogger, you can run a comment for a donation contest. It's your choice.
