Uplifting historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) Shaw University, located in Raleigh, NC, was the first HBCU organized in the South and is the birthplace of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). She and my great-grandfather worked as sharecroppers while raising eight children.

Not sure whether to celebrate or mourn this milestone. We travel because we need to raise money, and we won’t get it unless we get in front of the donors. I started doing this back in 2007 , when we won our first big federal contract for Bookshare, to take it from 3,000 students back then to more than 350,000 students now.
