June 18, 2007 OK, so I finally drank the Facebook coolaid – and although it took me a long time to get around to, I have now realized how many people in the nptech field have already been on facebook for a while. I decided to try out facebook when I kept hearing about the integration of other social networking sites into facebook.

It also gets kudos from NTEN’s satisfaction survey (it came in third, after CiviCRM and Salesforce.)
We're social creatures , we humans, and we love that we can peek in and comment on so many of our friends' lives so easily. If visitors to our sites can log in to Facebook when they want to leave a comment on a blog post, and they can update their Facebook status when they leave that comment automatically, that's a win for us.
Not only can you share organizational news as it happens, you can also comment on how breaking news in the world relates to your cause, or organization. In my book, there are two things all blogs must have: a way to subscribe and comments. Now, I know that many organizations have a fear of being overrun with negative comments.

I could think of several interesting implementations in the nptech world that would be fun (like it would make a great e-learning platform for, say, circuit riders, or folks like that.) I wish I had an excuse to install and test it – but it really requires a purpose for bringing community together.
