Danah Boyd One issue came up over the fact that women don't network. Actually, women are traditionally the maintainers of domestic social networks. They tend to network more than men. The gender difference concerns the style of networking. My argument here is that we need to pay attention to the network structures.

I'm just back from the red eye and really tired - and wanted to capture a few reflections about network effectiveness and resourcing. The World Cafe is structured as a 501-c3, but it is really a network. The session I did at Blogher was about tools for community fundraising (Marnie Webb set up a wiki with notes and links).

Over a year ago, I interviewed Carnet Williams , a long time member of the nonprofit technology and riders community and who recently launched a tool called Chipin which is designed to simplify the process of connecting with people in your social network to collect money for a personal cause, to purchase a gift, or for community fundraising.

When I'm asked questions that I don't know the answer to, I admit it and use it as opportunity to demonstrate the value of the social brain or having a good network on Twitter. BlogHer – a social networking site for women who blog – is a great place to find women writers who may care about your political and/or social issue. If you do a good job of connecting with these e-journalists, you may be able to garner more PR and leverage their networks for success. Check out Care2.com.

Lisa Stone at Blogher has responded to the situation here with a post called "Hating Hate Speech: Safety for Kathy Sierra and All Women Online." ve created an online social network called Stop Cyberbullying using a free tool called Ning. Anyone who joins can post resources and share ideas, including text and video.

She started out writing about what she gave away on her blog, Manifesto , but after a week or so, decided to set up a 29-Day Giving Challenge social network so that other people could share the Challenge with her. Stories can be posted in the 29-Day Giving Challenge social network's forum, or emailed to story@29gifts.org.

Reciprocity : Roger Carr helped me with winning the America's Giving Challenge he blogged (more than once I might add), left supportive comments, retweeted to his network ( connected me to Dr. Mani ), and personally donated to my campaign. He invested some of his social capital in my cause and I want to invest in his.

He talks about the "Cloud" a word to describe how we're all more closely connected through social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and etc. Time spent invested in a far-flung cloud is time that lost on networks closer to home. But more importantly, he describes the quality of leadership of a cloud or networked leadership.

LinkedIn LinkedIn is a professional social network, so it's ripe with job search opportunities. See who in your network knows someone at the organizations you'd like to work for.
