The two most common are the benefit corporation (B Corp) and the low-profit–limited-liability company (L3C). Benefit corporations, created in Maryland in 2010, differ from L3Cs in that they are required to operate under specific standards set forth by B Lab, itself a nonprofit organization (Powell et al., Clean the World, 2015).
