Microsoft has developed a new image-captioning algorithm that exceeds human accuracy in certain limited tests. The algorithm, which was described in a pre-print paper published in September , achieved the highest ever scores on an image-captioning benchmark known as “nocaps.” Image: Microsoft / Maurice Jager.
The most powerful configuration costs $1,199.99, which is the one that I’ve been testing. To see how capable the processor in my review unit is, I disabled the discrete RX 5600M graphics driver for fun to see if the Ryzen 7 4800H could handle Grand Theft Auto V ’s intensive graphics benchmark.
In testing, the ZenBook covered 100 percent of the sRGB gamut and 100 percent of the Adobe RGB gamut, and it reached 452 nits at maximum brightness. Asus says the hinge is “durability tested” for over 20,000 open / close cycles, and it feels sturdy enough. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. And it’s a bit thinner).
Our reviews generally leave extensive synthetic benchmarking to others — but the Slim 7 has been blowing Intel systems out of the water on those as well and coming close to Intel’s H-series Core i9 in multi-threaded performance. The 14-inch, 1920 x 1080 IPS panel is rated for 300 nits of brightness, but it only got up to 260 in my testing.
At nearly the top of Razer’s configuration tree sits this $2,999 ($2,799 at the time of publishing) model that I’ve been testing for the last week. Like the similarly specced Razer Blade Pro 17 my colleague Monica Chin tested out, you won’t want to touch near the display’s hinge or anywhere near the back on the bottom of the machine, either.
Since this is a preview unit that’s not finalized, I wasn’t able to run any graphics benchmarks — we can look forward to those results when the full product hits shelves in December. My test configuration includes a quad-core Core i7-1165G7, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage, and costs $1,199 — that’s getting into premium territory.
It’s the entry-level Aventa Pure model I’ve been testing for the past month in frozen Amsterdam. The Aventa Pure e-bike I’ve been testing is built for European roads. In my testing, on long stretches of uninterrupted rural roads, I’ve already gone well beyond that estimate since I’m often pedaling at speeds greater than 25 km/h.
I tested a $1,649.99 By giving a laptop an Evo badge, Intel claims to be certifying that it offers a number of benchmarks for “premium” thin-and-light laptops — Tiger Lake processors, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6, all-day battery life, fast charging, quick boot time, and, perhaps most importantly, solid real-world performance.
Vaio says the Z has passed MIL-STD 10H torture tests, including drop tests, pressure tests, and body-twist tests among others. The Z beat the Razer Book in our Adobe Premiere Pro export test by a bit less than a minute — a victory, to be sure, but not a margin to write home about. There aren’t a ton of 2.3-pound
In addition to IPX4 splash resistance, the Find N3 is the first phone to be independently tested to withstand one million folds by TV Rheinland, according to Oppo. Enhanced imaging performance The Find N3s camera system is branded by Hasselblad and sets new benchmarks in its category. Stereo speakers also enhance gameplay.
inches) and slightly slimmer, the Nvidia card is also a bit quieter under load — both in terms of the RX 6800 having a somewhat louder hum and audibly ramping its fan up and down a tad more often in the middle of a benchmark. Photography by Sean Hollister / The Verge. Yes, the RX 6800’s exhaust resembles a certain muscle car.
As this is a pre-production model, I haven’t done any formal benchmarking, but in general usage the processor is more than up to the task of running Chrome OS at this resolution, even when I have multiple desktops, windows, and tabs going at the same time. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge.
It also beats Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 7 with AMD’s eight-core Ryzen 7 4800U, which put up 46fps and actually isn’t too far off a system I tested with the most powerful Tiger Lake processor (the Core i7-1185G7) which averaged 89fps. The 2-in-1 averaged 36fps on the game’s built-in benchmark (at the lowest-possible settings).
I’ve been able to test-drive a Tab S7 Plus for a few days, and here are my thoughts on the highs and lows of the experience. Yes, technically Apple’s processor is faster than the Qualcomm in a benchmarktest. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. But in the real world, the Tab S7 Plus feels no slower than the iPad Pro.
You’ll see that difference reflected in our benchmark results later on. To see how our test system stacks up, I ran various synthetic benchmarks as well as a 5-minute, 33-second 4K video export in Premiere Pro. Photography by Monica Chin for The Verge. It costs $1,699. The most comparable M1 MacBook Pro is also $1,699.
My test system performs well, and the OLED screen is vivid and bright. The OLED XPS 13 , which I tested out last week, lasted for less than half of that time. It covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 gamut and reached 368 nits in our testing. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge.
Google’s not sharing who designed the CPU and GPU, nor is it sharing benchmarks on their performance — though Osterloh says that it should be “market leading.” The first two were, unsurprisingly, related to photography. It’s right to be skeptical until we get a chance to test the camera ourselves.
Yet “road tests” of the user experience for events not using a mobile responsive registration form, showed that it was impossible to select a Registration Type for an event – a key first step in the registration process. My test configuration is in the middle; it includes a Core i7-10850H, 1TB of storage, 32GB of RAM, and the OLED touchscreen. I actually found myself eschewing my personal laptop during my testing period in favor of the ThinkPad because of how much I love typing on it. It has an MSRP of $4,111 but is currently listed at $2,466.
You can adjust the intensity of ANC with a slider in the Jabra app, and at maximum, I’d say it’s up there with the Sony 1000XM3 or AirPods Pro — but definitely a rung beneath the QuietComfort Earbuds, which I view as the new benchmark. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. In the end, I think it’s almost a wash between the two.
That might make this 8-liter box one of the smallest competent 4K gaming PCs you can buy — in benchmarks with a pre-production sample of the Core i9-11900KB, I saw the Beast post numbers within a stone’s throw of those my colleague Tom Warren saw when he reviewed the 3080 Ti with his full-size desktop. Photography by Sean Hollister.
I tested a more expensive 2-in-1 model listed at $2,926.75 Updates to Premiere Pro can impact export time, so a better apples-to-apples comparison is the Puget Systems benchmark for Premiere Pro , which tests live playback and export performance at both 4K and 8K. The chip doesn’t benchmark as well as the iPhone’s A14 Bionic, but in single core marks it beats other Android phones with the older 865 chip handily. For my testing, I turned on every bell and whistle: max resolution, adaptive refresh rate, high brightness, always-on screen. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E and both flavors of 5G.
Sometimes in-screen scanners can be finicky, but I had no issues using it in my tests. In my testing, neither showed any slowdown or chug, even when bouncing between multiple apps and running a handful of tabs in the browser. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. Performance. Battery life, though, is a mixed bag.
I tested the Blade model that has an Nvidia’s GTX 1650 Ti with Max Q design, in addition to a quad-core Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. That bore out in our testing. However, it’s a significantly worse frame rate than we got from the G14, which ran the same benchmark on the same settings at 74fps.
Lenovo says it’s been tested against 12 “military-grade” certification methods. Speaking as someone who’s tested a number of sluggish budget Chromebooks recently, it’s really refreshing to see Chrome OS running this smoothly. I ended up running a couple benchmarks to see how this system stacks up to competition. pounds and 0.61

I have large hands and basically can’t hold the phone without covering the antenna window unless I try, and I didn’t have any issues during my brief UWB tests. In testing, the focus was indeed fast, and iPhone 12 Pro low-light photos were sharper than the iPhone 11 Pro because it has a brighter lens that allows for faster shutter speeds.
There had been some concern that this cooling system could negatively affect CPU temperatures, but I didn’t observe any issues during my tests. 1440p testing. I’ve been testing the RTX 3080 on the same machine I used for the RTX 2080 review two years ago. I’ve also been testing 4K performance, which you can find below.
I’ve spent the past week testing out the RTX 3070 at both 1440p and 4K ahead of its October 29th debut, and it’s fair to say this card will give you a lot of headroom for games coming in 2021 and beyond so long as you’re playing at 1440p or below. 1440p testing. I’ve also been testing 4K performance, which you can find below.
It strangely didn’t do as well as its predecessor on our Premiere Pro test, which involves exporting a five-minute, 33-second 4K video; this year’s Aero took four minutes and five seconds to complete the task, where its predecessor (the Aero 15 OLED XB) took just over two and a half — Gigabyte says this may have to do with Nvidia’s drivers.
The model that I tested costs a whopping $3,999.99. The Blade 17 starts at $2,699.99, but the model that I tested costs a whopping $3,999.99. DLSS pushed every game that I tested on this Blade 17 well over 60 frames per second. That’s despite the fact that it has even more powerful specs now.
With a starting price of $1,599 ($1,899 as tested), the 2021 GP66 Leopard takes the same top-end chips that are in the likes of MSI’s GE66 Raider and the Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 and puts them in a less exciting, more affordable chassis. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. Nvidia said the chip would deliver speeds up to 1.5
It is equipped with an Intel Core i7-10870H processor, which on paper is a slight step down compared to the Core i7-10875H in the previous model I tested, but I didn’t notice a difference in performance. I’ve been testing the flagship configuration of the new GS66 Stealth for a week. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge.
Grand Theft Auto V ’s benchmark is getting old, though it’s still a good test for processing and graphical chops in a laptop. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge. inch computers from competitors like Razer and MSI.
The Strix G15 punches above its price I was skeptical of the ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition when I first got my test unit from AMD. This Strix is one of the first laptops announced that includes AMD’s new RX 6000M series mobile GPUs, and the first one I’ve gotten to test. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. to $1,699.99.
In my testing, the TUF Dash F15’s battery lasted into the start of a second day before needing to recharge. When I ran our video export test (which crunches an Adobe Premiere Pro project into a 5-minute, 33-second 4K file), it took 6 minutes, 41 seconds, which was slower than I anticipated. But none of this helps this laptop’s case.
That discovery in turn led us to venture out to Central Park in New York City to test Nokia’s camera claims for ourselves: it was The Verge that shared the first real photos taken by the phone as well. Combined with the experience of the contemporary HTC Vive, it set the benchmarks for how we evaluated practically every headset afterward.
Graphic by William Joel | Photography by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge. Pixel 3A last year was one of our highest NPS-rated products ever, and definitely even benchmarked outside. We talked about hardware earlier — definitely having access to testing equipment, labs, it’s really important. I think we’ve made a lot of progress.
