We also have a student division: STAND , which has more than 850 chapters around the world, and the students in those chapters actively organize and mobilize their communities and schools to pass legislation, to fundraise, and to really make more noise about genocide in Darfur and genocide in general.

Two of their staff members recently returned from Darfur and are putting together a video to raise awareness about it. They are collecting questions from supporters about Darfur to include in the video. * . * Oxfam has used Flickr petitions successfully in several campaigns.

social marketing,??? which has been used since the early 1970s to refer to a specific marketing discipline, is being hijacked to mean something else entirely with the rise of things like social network marketing. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of other bloggers writing specifically about social marketing.

Carie opened with an intro to social media. She says social networks are “not just a bunch of lonely teenage boys.” She notes that people really rely on social networks for influence on decision-making. This shows the viral potential of raising awareness in the social networks.
Museum 2.0

It seems like the real world museums that are starting to work in Second Life are pursuing the social interaction element of the platform through events. The Exploratorium did the solar eclipse, and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum is doing all kinds of programs around Darfur. I think we’re right on the cusp of a lot of that happening.
