Fundraising Results: Close to 18,000 people participated in this online fundraising contest resulting in over $2 million dollars being given to 1,200 participating nonprofits. Prizes were given out from a $148,000 award pool that consisted of: One set of Grand Awards that rewarded nonprofits for garnering the most donors.

Note from Beth: A couple years ago, I organized a “ Nonprofit Social Media ROI Poetry Slam &# at SXSW. The contest is open to all nonprofits in the United States, Canada and the UK. Panelists told their case studies as poems. So, when I heard about this grant program, I just couldn’t resist having a guest post about it.

Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to submit their videos to the contest, hosted on DoGooderTV , the video sharing platform for nonprofits. One way to get people to create content for you is through contests. A common form of contest among companies is the “create a commercial&# contest. Among organizations, contests may seem like a short-cut to get compelling content, and cheaply. The current Heinz contest is a great example.
