Remember the homeless avatar in Second Life that got a lot of attention a few weeks back? Rik Riel and Nedra Weinreich also wrote it up and I suspect it probably inspired a few Second Life Doubter's Club posts. So, I took the extra step of an interview. What are the logistics of working the avatar?

Neal Stephenson famously coined the term “metaverse” in his 1992 novel Snow Crash , where it referred to a 3D virtual world inhabited by avatars of real people. Real-time 3D computer graphics and personalized avatars. Second Life , a virtual world that isn’t a traditional game, has been frequently described as a metaverse.

The live video feed was being streamed from the Netsquared gathering in San Francisco happening at the same time as the virtual gatherng in Second Life. Jeska Linden , Community Manager for Linden Labs, has the mike in her hand, while her avatar is behind the podium in Second Life. So back to last night's events.

David and Randy (I've presented with them several times, hugged them, had beers with them, I've even hung out in our Nonprofit Commons in Second Life virtual island with them, so yes, we are on a first name basis) reminded me that innovation doesn't just happen.
