But I’d been scribbling notes for an art museum label post for awhile, and then yesterday, the NY Times had a review of a new show at MOMA, Comic Abstraction. MOMA has standard art museum labels. When I asked an art museum educator about this (“How should I look at art?”) The review was harsh. Is this enough? I’m begging here.

The easiest way to do that is to acknowledge their uniqueness and validate their ability to connect with the museum on their own terms. Who is the "me" in the museum experience? Not so at museums.

Then I went to a museum exhibition yesterday featuring a computer interactive component with a lousy interface, and thought, Yes. This week, an audio mixing game called Break in the Road. Like many DJ games, you have access to many audio pieces which you can lay on multiple tracks, mash up, etc., A woman humming in the window.

I particularly like the MP3 experiments , events at which Improv Everywhere distribute an audio file to people for free as a podcast. Participants gather in a physical venue with their own digital audio players, and everyone hits “play” at the same time. The recording starts with two and a half minutes of music without talking.

Someday we want to collect audio and video, too, but we’d need a pretty serious operating budget to do that and at least one full-time employee. This Pop Up Library just returned from a folk music festival. One lives a double life as a soul music collector and DJ. Geography is fluid, though.
