The Mobile Martus prototype allows users to send crucial data from the field—text, photographs, audio and video—to the Martus network of secure servers. The data is automatically encrypted on the mobile phone, and when being sent to the server, so it is protected in case the phone is lost, stolen or confiscated.

This event is a biannual training workshop on information, communication, and technologies for citizen media, community health, and civil society development in Mekong Region and included participants are coders, journalists, and NGO staff from Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. The camp took place in Cha-am, Petchburi, Thailand.

So, do check out the Audio/Video Edition of the NGO-in-a-Box which includes a collection of Free and Open Source Software tools. Second Life Ruby has an update on the demonstrations occurring in Second Life in support of Burma.

In this photo, Tyler is listening to a book from Bookshare.org on his school's laptop with the assistance of the Kurzweil 3000 audio software. We've also had major efforts in Burma, Sri Lanka and Guatemala, to name a few; efforts we expect to continue this year. We work with human rights groups all over the world.

What if we were to audio and video record interviews with politicians and put them on the web? Disaster Relief: Described their efforts for Tsunami and Katrina and mentioned efforts for Burma and China. What if networked better and created stronger communities of practice? What would ngos look like if they were completely virtual?

One Million Bones is a collaborative art installation designed to recognize the millions of victims and survivors who have been killed or displaced by ongoing genocides and mass atrocities in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Burma.

That ethos continued until the last three years or so with issues in Burma, Iran, and China. The Digital category, won last year by Wikileaks, awards innovative digital content appearing for the first time on a UK-based website and covers news, blogs, features and comment or debate, audio and visual material.
