She is the advancement associate for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Santeler is experienced in working with arts and education nonprofits professionally. Santeler holds a bachelor’s degree in music and nonprofit arts management from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Art, however, does not come to museums pre-hardened. At the museum of art and history where I work, we are grappling with the question of how to help people enjoy themselves while keeping the art and artifacts safe. The level of touching, especially of art, has increased. How will we deal with this?
I spent some time playing with this question last week at the MilwaukeeArt Museum, a large general museum that is moving toward redesign of the permanent galleries. How do you find your way around a multi-faceted museum? Do you interrogate the map? Create a plan for yourself? Get deliciously lost?
