Song Reader didn''t come as a CD, or an LP, or a bunch of digital audio files. Beck''s project is unusual because he deliberately resurrected a mostly-defunct participatory platform: sheet music for popular songs. Participatory processes often (and sometimes unintentionally) restructure the product. That''s expected.

It made me think in ways that I haven't before about the relation of art--as expressive culture--to democracy. It is multi-disciplinary, incorporates diverse voices from our community, and provides interactive and participatory opportunities for visitor involvement. To make this model work, there was another IRC backchannel that streamed audio from the conference and someone did the equivalent of live tweeting. They appointed a person in the room as the "Backchannel Advocate" and the speaker would ask them verbalize questions from the backchannel. One of the reflections.

Guidestar has multiple office locations, so this session was done as a virtual meeting using a platform and apps that offered features like chat, desktop sharing, polling, white board, sticky notes, and audio and video conferencing. I get excited about a lot of things in my work at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. Ze Frank is a participatory artist who creates digital projects that are explicitly about creating and enhancing authentic interpersonal connections. Photography, video, audio, text, origami, mail art.

My style of teaching is participatory; I don’t lecture with PPT endlessly and involve the audience. Last year, I did a workshop at a conference for professionals who do audio description, a service that makes visual images of theatre, television, movies, and other art forms accessible to people are who blind or have low vision.
