Listening to the podcast, I was struck by its strange connections to the non-profit world's approach to funding. Whereas non-profits work hard to fit everything they do under one mission, the monks split it up. It's totally valid for an artist or an art organization to have a monastic approach. They were using music, dance, poetry, and storytelling, and they were succeeding. In order to get a book published, I was told I had to have a museum exhibit. Fortunately, the Field Museum in Chicago mounted an exhibit of the photographs for In Her Hands. I thought I was going to do a picture book with maybe captions.
