Race Through Time was designed specifically for this audience of 30 and 40-somethings looking for fun social events with a Santa Cruz bent. But we also saw something else: parents and teenagers, grandparents and grandkids, elderly couples, out for a fun scavenger hunt evening. Performances just for teens.

Finally, many art museums do fabulous, highly participatory projects that are led by participatory artists who work specifically in the realm of dialogue or active social participation. Ironically, art museums often present the most radical participatory experiences for visitors--but only when led by an artist, not by internal staff members.

Teens as Good Samaritans The November/December issue of Psychology Today has a brief article called, "The Making of a Good Samaritan", about the benefits of community service requirements in schools. The CD features music and spoken word by Bay Area artists such as Aya de Leon and Michael Franti.

We experimented with many different forms of visitor participation throughout the building, trying to balance social and individual, text-based and artistic, cerebral and silly. It is a personality test (based on real science) in which you can determine your own love style by answering a series of questions, teen magazine-style.
