Flexible, modular support for distributed products: inviting people to plug-in their own creations, whether those be DIY audio tours, pop up events, or co-created exhibitions. We invited local artists and community groups to perform. We make room for interns and artists and people who walk in the door with crazy ideas.

That means we collect university press, handmade artist books, zines made by sixth graders, poetry chapbooks from big names published in tiny local presses, and self-published poetry chapbooks sold for a dollar on the street. The Underground Library isn’t just a community archive of things past.

We're taking the art of freelancing for writers, and making it much more transparent and much more public. Is it video and audio? We've done audio, we've done video, we've done text, and we've done some photo slide shows. Actually, the art analogy isn't that far off. Art has never really been sustainable--high art.
