I covered our Human Rights program, including the Martus Project and the Human Rights Data AnalysisGroup (which joined Benetech last year). This is based on a talk I gave in SriLanka last year at the University of Peradeniya, but with a heavier technology component given the engineering audience.
We've been developing Miradi for three years together with the Conservation Measures Partnership (which includes groups like The Nature Conservancy and the World Wildlife Fund), and began beta testing the software in 2007. We work with human rights groups all over the world. The feedback has been amazing.
This type of documentation is often a critical step in the large-scale data analysis projects conducted by Benetech’s Human Rights Data AnalysisGroup (HRDAG) in partnership with human rights organizations. My first presentation discussed principles of documentation, developing databases, and analysis.
