I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and both sets of my grandparents came from rural Mississippi. I was really moved by their analysis that looked at the intersection between poverty, institutional racism, and malnutrition, or food insecurity. What was the inspiration for the cookbook? or was there a particular path to it?
