Apple’s newest smart speaker is way more affordable but still chasing Amazon and Google Two and a half years ago, Apple finally entered the smart speaker market with the HomePod. Amazon says the new Fire TV Stick is 50 percent faster than the previous version — but it looks identical on the outside. Amazon’s app selection is excellent, though there is one notable omission: NBCUniversal’s Peacock service still hasn’t been made available on the platform. Everything is easily downloadable after the fact.)
Amazon’s Luna streaming service has arrived, with the company rolling out early access to a limited set of customers today. It’s starting with a library of 50 games and support for Mac, PC, Fire TV, and, in a first for a major streaming service, iOS devices — because Amazon has a web app that circumvents Apple’s controversial App Store rules.
Sony has added what it calls “Precise Voice Pickup technology” to the 1000XM4s, which optimizes audio processing from the five built-in microphones for clearer voice capture — and the difference is apparent. I don’t like the headphones taking control or changing the audio on me unexpectedly, so I tend to leave those features switched off.
Amazon’s latest entry-level smart speaker has a new design, but few other improvements over the last model Amazon may get more attention for its higher-end Echo speakers, such as the Echo Studio and the new 4th Gen Echo, but the humble Echo Dot is by far the most popular speaker in the lineup.

Amazon unveiled the AZ1 Neural Edge processor, a silicon module that will speed up Alexa’s ability to answer your queries and commands by hundreds of milliseconds per response. Amazon’s big, cheap tablet can now be had many different ways Amazon’s lineup of Fire tablets has settled into a familiar routine: they are available in small, medium, and large; they are priced far lower than comparable iPads; and they are mostly good for reading and watching movies or TV, with content likely supplied by Amazon itself.
The audio quality has been further refined, and Sony added key features it frustratingly omitted last time — like IPX4 water and sweat resistance. The 1000XM4s also raise the bar for wireless audio and battery life in noise-canceling earbuds. But Sony’s audio prowess extends through all frequencies.

They support aptX HD, aptX, AAC, and SBC Bluetooth codecs, so they’re well-rounded for wireless audio. I also tested them wired with my Apple Lossless files and streaming Amazon Music HD, and the M-200 ANCs proved wonderfully layered and rich. They don’t seem to pass audio over USB-C, unfortunately, so that port is just for charging.).

You can find an endless list of true wireless earbuds under that price on Amazon from random brands you’ve probably never heard of.
