The problem is that the major Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, RedHat) don’t yet have MariaDB in their repositories, so it will be a while before MariaDB is an easy apt-get or yum away from installation (there are some independent repositories and builds.). MariaDB is a true drop in replacement of MySQL!

A new Linux port allows Apple’s M1 Macs to run Ubuntu for the first time. Corellium, a security firm that offers a virtualized version of iOS for security testing, has successfully ported Ubuntu over to M1 Macs and released a tutorial for others to follow. Booting from USB a full Ubuntu desktop (rpi).

I’m actually quite happy – I can run both Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux on my laptop, and I like Android (and my Droid 2 phone) a lot. There are some tools that our team uses that I need to use that have no Macintosh version or alternative – and collaboration with our team using MS Office tools has become so much smoother.

And, of course, designers need software that just don’t have high enough quality open source alternatives yet. I use Ubuntu on a dual-boot (XP) machine. One minor point: have you tried Twhirl on Ubuntu? Ubuntu, Fedora, Blag, Mandriva, Gentoo, and so on. Which is unfortunate, and I hope it changes. 4 Brian 06.25.08

The best-known include such distros as Debian , openSUSE , and Ubuntu. Set up your PC for an alternative bootup. After your PC is set to boot from an alternative drive, insert your DVD or USB drive, reboot, and select “Start Linux Mint” from the first menu. For this job, I recommend Oracle’s great free VirtualBox VM program.
