We spent a year working with a US workforce board to launch its own regional hourly labor market as an alternative to Silicon Valley’s apps. Even before the pandemic, which caused a significant increase in gig workers, Gallup’s polling found that 36 percent of adults relied on gig work for at least a portion of their income.
