JVH: So Freedom from Oil is a campaign that looks at the behaviors of automakers and tries to pressure them and negotiate with them in order to have them change their behavior and really be the leaders in weaning America off of oil. Through that, I believe it is possible.

I post these kinds of things because it gives me hope that there are a few lone voices in powerful positions advocating for the future of all Americans, not just rich white ones, and for our environment. Yay, Obama! Tina Brown wrote a great piece about it in the Washington Post on September 22nd.

It's an amazing act of love really in response to the hurricane and the racial neglect that occurred down on the Gulf. I really wanted to support people to be on the mic whose voices are often silenced in our society, and the people who are most impacted by poverty and environmental racism and some of those things we've talked about.
