Auto Mode is a new feature coming to Amazon’s Alexa app that turns your phone into a “driver-friendly display” when used with Alexa auto accessories like the Echo Auto , the company says. However, when we reviewed it for ourselves, we found Alexa wasn’t great at helping with the kinds of queries we had while driving.
Great in concept, but there’s a limit to what Alexa can do on a phone I did not expect to like the Amazon Echo Frames as much as I do. The concept is relatively simple: they’re a pair of eyeglasses with tiny little speakers and microphones embedded in the stems so you can listen to music and command Alexa. Echo Frames software.
At the very apex are four buttons: volume up, volume down, microphone mute, and the “action” button, which puts the speaker into listening mode without you having to say “Alexa”. Alexa’s signature LED light ring is now on the bottom. It’s now on the bottom, which might be harder to see from a distance.
On top of the mini is the only interface on the device itself, a flat plastic touch-sensitive pad that you can use to invoke Siri, play or pause music, or adjust volume. Amazon’s smallest smart display has gotten the tiniest of refreshes Amazon recently updated a couple of its Alexa-based Echo Show smart displays. The Echo Show 5 also has a handy feature that lets you tap the top of the device to snooze an alarm, which is easier than trying to say “Alexa snooze” when you’re half awake.
Despite its age, we still think it’s a great little smart speaker for the price, with decent sound and plenty of functionality thanks to Amazon’s Alexa. Read our review. Amazon has introduced a new novelty voice for Alexa this festive season: Santa Claus. After enabling the skill with the command “Alexa, enable ‘Hey Santa,’” you can ask St. Nick to sing songs, crack jokes, tell stories, or just respond to typical Alexa commands like setting timers or playing music in his more festive voice.
The new Show is the first smart display that can follow you around Since its inception in 2015, Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant has always been a disembodied digital form trapped in a box of electronics. Alexa behaves in the same way on all of them: you ask it to do something, then it provides a polite response and does that thing.
The Move serves as Sonos’ only speaker that can serve as a Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth speaker, meaning you can use it to bolster your arrangement of speakers for music and movies at home via Wi-Fi, or use it by itself to power the tunes when you’re on the go with Bluetooth. It supports Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants.
Additionally, the Nest Audio sounds good at lower volumes, which is nice when I just want some background music while I’m working or during dinner. Obviously, the Nest Audio is louder and sounds better than the Nest Mini and is the better choice for frequently listening to music.
For this review, I’ll keep it simple and focus on speakers that resemble the Roam in size. I’ve also managed to drop my two review units a few times, and they’ve come away with only light blemishes and a couple nicks you really have to hunt for to notice. You can use either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant with the built-in mics.
Note: Because of the way Fitbit structured the embargo on reviews, I had far less time to test than would be ideal for this kind of device (just five days). We may update this review down the road if longer-duration testing proves to garner important insights. The Sense does what every Fitbit ever has done: counts your steps.
Of course, it does everything other Echo displays and speakers do, thanks to the presence of Amazon’s smart voice assistant, Alexa. This includes playing music, showing weather reports, streaming video, controlling smart home gadgets, telling fart jokes, all the stuff you’ve come to rely on Alexa for. It’s all Amazon, for now.

Alexa and the Google Assistant aren’t quite ready either, to be fair, but they’re both much further along that path than Siri is. The Arc retains a lot of features from the Beam, including built-in microphones for voice commands from either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. In my experience, I’ve found that these features are mostly useful for music listening, and even then, I often ignore them completely. Apple’s AirPlay 2 is also supported.
Sony has also stuffed this soundbar with practically every way to stream music you could possibly want. Bluetooth and a 3.5mm aux port really aren’t going to cut it for this much scratch, so you also get Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, plus the option to integrate the HT-A7000 with your Google Home or Amazon Alexa systems.
