The Alabama Eye Bank is a nonprofit that helps those with corneal blindness to see again. Its job is to collect and supply eye tissue to surgeons in Alabama, as well as many other places, quickly. I rarely hear about a database as mission critical as that of the Alabama Eye Bank. The Alabama Eye Bank.

Founded in 1962, Birmingham Botanical Gardens has been a staple in the Birmingham, Alabama community for over 50 years. The Gardens is open 365 days a year and is free to the public. Since its inception, the Botanical Gardens has grown to a 67.5-acre On average, the Gardens utilize the support of 1600-1700 volunteers per year.

If you're looking for inspiration with a collections focus, the Underground Library is a compelling experimental space dedicated to archiving all media produced in Chicago. The library is run in the lobby of a theater company by a group of volunteers led by Nell Taylor.
