At first blush, although Kintera officially got out the door first, announcing Connect weeks ago, and delivering the APIs and docs on Friday, their play is a good start, but Convio, announcing Open tomorrow, appears to be ahead in terms of providing real openness. Open has 3 components, APIs, Database Connectors, and Extensions.

I started to do databases for organizations, and then, in 1999, I flew headlong into web application development, which became my specialty and mainstay until I took a break to go to seminary in 2005. And I struggled mightily with my own capacity to build really good applications mostly without other developers to help out.

Yahoo Javascript Libraries go OpenSource
