This morning I got an email from my colleagues at NTEN telling me it was an awesome example of tagging. This post takes a quick look at the the Voters project as a tagging project to glean some learnings. The intent of the project is "By tagging content related to Minnesota's election, more voter s will be heard."

When I talk about designing participatory experiences, I often show the above graphic from Forrester Research. The point, in the context of this conversation, is that a minority of social media users are creators—people who write blog posts, upload photos onto Flickr, or share homemade videos on YouTube.

They're like tags on Flickr, only added inline to your post. A Brief History of Hash Tags Chris Messina ( @chrismessina) is credited with starting hashtags and has written about how to make them most useful. That's, of course, if the tag used is unique enough. I think it takes more a unique tag.

In San Francisco, datasf.org aggregates raw data from over 140 city departments, making it available to any member of the public, for any reason. Collaborative. Those are the values President Obama cited last December in his Open Government Initiative.

Museum 2.0

Click is an exhibition process in three parts: The Museum solicited photographs from artists via an open call on their website, Facebook group, Flickr groups, and outreach to Brooklyn-based arts organizations. Specifically, the Brooklyn Museum is doing research about the role of independence and influence in participatory experiences.
