Since then, the platform (which is open source ) has been modified for use in South Africa (mapping xenophobic violence), DR Congo , Vote Report India (to monitor the recent local elections) and more. This proved to the Ushahidi team that their tool would be valuable to communities around the world.

We really try and get women from all walks of life to be able to participate in our program, the goal being to provide as many unique voices and opportunities as possible. I learned to speak the language fluently, and was there at a really intense time in terms of the civil war, and a lot of the political uprisings that were going on.
