For example, they started a community-driven savings and loans program to help offset displacement costs or provide the funds needed to create a new business.

My mother taught me many things, and I feel like with every year she teaches me more – whether she knows it or not. At 19, New Jersey native Maggie Doyne used her life savings from babysitting to start Kopila Valley children’s home in Nepal, which has grown to a home for over 40 children, and a school serving over 200 students.

Acumen Fund is a non-profit global venture fund that uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. Each chapter offers drop-in tutoring, field trips, workshops, and in-schools programs -- all free of charge -- for children, classes, and schools with particular interests or particular needs.
