In some cases, the information is intended for use in court cases or international prosecution, to support a human rights report, or advocacy campaign. As the week progressed, we considered the difficulties faced by Afghani groups who seek to build an NGO community in a place of conflict with few resources.
First, in partnership with Colombian NGO Corporación Punto de Vista, we assessed a methodology for studying conflict-related sexual violence in the country. Among their recommendations is that NGOs be trained to collect, analyze and use data effectively, since the impact of their advocacy depends on establishing credibility through good data.
We've also had major efforts in Burma, Sri Lanka and Guatemala, to name a few; efforts we expect to continue this year. The result is that rich, raw data remains vulnerable to theft and destruction and cannot be easily used to support ongoing advocacy efforts. We work with human rights groups all over the world.
