In 2012, TechSoup Global, in collaboration with our partners around the world, conducted a survey of nonprofits, charities, NGOs, and social benefit organizations around the globe. We wanted to better understand the current state of their technology infrastructure and their future plans for adopting cloud technologies.

When we surveyed NGOs and libraries around the world this year about where they are in regard to using and needing cloud based IT services, we didn’t know how far things have gone toward cloud adoption. The survey was fielded in February and March 2012. Cloud Services That NGOs Need.

When TechSoup and our global network of partners surveyed more than 10,500 NGOs around the world this year to find out whether they are using and needing cloud based IT services, we didn’t know how many would report cloud technology adoption. 90 percent of respondents worldwide indicated using some type of cloud technology.

We’ll draw from recent experiences in setting up an active advisory group made up of NGO partners from all corners of the globe; our network-wide campaign to survey NGO technology trends in 24 languages; and, our own technology solution to communicating with these partners to deliver services in 37 countries.

In follow-up interviews we discovered that many nonprofits were using cloud-based software without even realizing it, so the adoption rate could be even higher. The survey also found that once nonprofits begin using one cloud software solution, they are likely to adopt other cloud tools. Primary Findings. states In the fall of 2011.
