Recently, I've been thinking about the launch of NTEN's newest resource: NTEN:Change, A Quarterly Journal for Nonprofit Leaders. We also wanted to make the journal interactive: like all of NTEN programming and resources, we wanted it to be a launching pad to connect you with peers, colleagues, and other resources in the community.
In our latest survey, we decided to ask about technology staffing levels differently. In our previous survey, we moved from "information technology staff" to "Technology-responsible staff" in the question, hoping that this more-inclusive terminology would help us understand better the FTE staffing levles related to technology.
Nonprofits are taking advantage of this technology; according to the Nonprofit Social Networking Survey by NTEN, Common Knowledge & Blackbaud, the average nonprofit’s fan or follower base grew by 30 percent on Facebook and 81 percent on Twitter in 2011.
The survey fundings are based on a sample nonprofit CEOs whose organizations are receiving funding from foundations giving at least $5 million annually in grants called the “Nonprofit Voice,” with 170 respondents answering the questions on this survey.
The survey also reports that event planners still rely heavily on email marketing, online event marketing tools, websites, and print advertising to promote their events, indicating that traditional forms of event marketing still play an essential role in promoting an event." We identified a subset (27 organizations) of “Master Social Fundraisers” from amongst the survey respondents. You can get the entire report for free here.]
The 2011 Nonprofit Social Network Benchmark Report found that 30% of Master Fundraisers – those that brought in more than $100,000 – were small organizations and a further 8% were medium-sized. It turns out that nonprofits of all sizes are able to scale their fundraising efforts on social networks.
