In January of last year I wrote up a quick summary on how some of our clients' end-of-year fundraising campaigns did vs. the prior year, and I thought it’d be nice to repeat the exercise to see how nonprofits fared in 2011. Lower average gifts – 79% had lower average gifts in 2011 vs. 2010.
In 2011, 35% of online revenue came from emails, however, this past year email fundraising decreased by 40%! This shift is due to an increase in social fundraising–in fact, for every 1,000 email subscribers, there are currently 149 Facebook fans, 53 Twitter followers, and 29 mobile subscribers.
It turns out that nonprofits of all sizes are able to scale their fundraising efforts on social networks. The 2011 Nonprofit Social Network Benchmark Report found that 30% of Master Fundraisers – those that brought in more than $100,000 – were small organizations and a further 8% were medium-sized.

In particular we were excited to see advocacy response rates increased 28% between 2010 and 2011. Overall, email open rates held steady between 2010 and 2011.
